Jam tin hand bombs - made from an empty jam tin filled with pieces of scrap and explosive with a short fuse which had to be lit before throwing.  These were used in their thousands, often at great risk to the thrower.  Many Australians were killed or maimed by them.  Several Australians were awarded the
