Captain Alfred John Shout (above and left) was awarded the Victoria Cross for most conspicuous bravery on the morning of the 9th August, 1915 at Lone Pine trenches in the Gallipoli Peninsula.
He died of wounds at sea 2 days later on 11th August, 1915 aged 33.
He was born in New Zealand.
